 Angela’s Ashes (1999)
IMDB rating: 7.00
Plot: Based on the best selling autobiography by Irish expat Frank McCourt, Angela’s Ashes follows the experiences of young Frankie and his family as they try against all odds to escape the poverty endemic in the slums of pre-war Limerick. The film opens with the family in Brooklyn, but following the death of one of Frankie’s siblings, they return home, only to find the situation there even worse. Prejudice against Frankie’s Northern Irish father makes his search for employment in the Republic difficult despite his having fought for the IRA, and when he does find money, he spends the money on drink.

I'm looking for some good books to read…?
What would you recommend based on what I like?
To Kill a Mockingbird
Grapes of Wrath
Angela’s Ashes
Rebecca
Persuasion
David Sedaris books
I will be starting 1984 and Animal Farm soon…thinking of reading Jane Eyre, Great Expectations after that…
Sense & Sensibility, Emma – Jane Austen
The Picture of Dorian Gray – Oscar Wilde (amazing story.)
Great Expectations, David Copperfield – Charles Dickens
Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy (long but worth it)
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou (autobiography)
The Jungle – Upton Sinclair
The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath
Hamlet, The Tempest, Macbeth, etc – Shakespeare
The Fountainhead – Ayn Rand
Skip reading Animal Farm.. it’s just dull. 1984 is great though, definitely read that one. Jane Eyre… i’ve started to read it but for some reason I don’t like Bronte’s writing style. Keep reading Jane Austen. She is a fascinating writer.

Those are all boring school books. To Kill a Mockingbird is good and so is 1984.
Try The Sight or Firebringer by David Clement-Davies or Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
