Belly of the Beast

Belly of the Beast
Belly of the Beast (2003)

IMDB rating: 4.30

Plot: Ten years ago, Jake Hopper was a CIA agent who was stationed in Thailand. Then one day, things went sour, and his partner, Sunti barely escaped with his life…after accidentally killing a woman. Jake called it quits and returned to the United States when his wife died, and Sunti became a Buddhist monk to atone for his sins. For the past 10 years, Jake has run a successful private security business, and has been raising his daughter Jessica, who is now an adult. While hiking in Thailand, Jessica and her friend Sarah Winthorpe are kidnapped. A group of Islamic fundamentalists known as the Abu Karaf claims responsibility. Sarah is the daughter of United States senator John Winthorpe. For ransom, the Abu Karaf demand the release of 20 prisoners from American custody. The US Secretary of State urges restraint — he won’t negotiate. Tom Collins, an ex-colleague of Jake’s, recognizes Jessica on the ransom tape and tips Jake off. Jake knows that he must rescue the girls himself. An old CIA buddy puts Jake in contact with Leon Washington, an active CIA agent who is working in Thailand. Jake goes to Bangkok, and escapes an assassination attempt. Leon arranges a meeting for himself with with Soku — the internal security chief for General Jantapan. Jantapan is a rebel military general who is making a play to be one of the most powerful men in Thailand. Secretly, Jantapan is messing with some dangerous spiritual forces. Soku provides Jake with a cover story, but the CIA wants Jake out of it — they are planning to take out the Abu Karaf with the aid of the Thai army, and they don’t want a civilian in the middle. Jake is a spiritual man, so he contacts his spiritual master Paijan Paitoon. As Jake is in trouble, Paitoon offers to arrange a divination from the oracle of the order. Jake enlists the help of Sunti. Jake gets Lulu, the girlfriend of arms dealer Fitch McQuoid, to steal information leading to the Abu Karaf. Jake and Sunti follow the leads to a warehouse where they discover evidence of highly sophisticated weaponry. With their enemies now after Lulu, Jake takes Lulu under his wing. Jake shares some of his info with Leon. Can he trust Leon? Another attempt is made on Jake’s life — and this time, Jake is sure that Leon was involved. Finally, the Abu Karaf contact Jake to arrange a meeting — the pieces are coming together, and Jake figures out that it was not the Abu Karaf who kidnapped Jessica and Sarah. Jantapan tries to send the spirit of an ancient warrior demon to kill Jake, but the ceremony goes wrong and the spirit enters Jantapan himself, giving Jantapan amazing physical and spiritual powers. Jake and Sunti go to meet Mongkol, the leader of the Abu Karaf. Mongkol confirms that ever since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Jantapan has worked to corner the narcotics and arms markets. It was Jantapan who kidnapped the girls, blaming the Abu Karaf so the army would wipe out his competition. Mongkol knows where the girls are, and he gives Jake plans and intelligence. They both need the girls alive. Jake must engage in a battle that will put both his physical and spiritual powers to the ultimate test.

Cave dude | Feb 02, 2010

LOL!

OBVIOUSLY, the Hindu religion is much older than any buy-bull god.

In addition to a lack of historical support, many characteristics of Jesus, which Christians today believe in, are undeniably similar or identical to religious trends and beliefs that preceded Christianity. There are tens of accounts of pagan gods of many different cultures who were said to have the same attributes as those that Christians claim Jesus had.

Trinity?Trinities were popular in pagan sects before Christianity was introduced to the world. Some of the more well known trinity gods included Mithra-Vohu Mana-Rashnu, Amen-Mut-Khonsu, and Osiris-Isis-Horus.

Virgin Birth?Among the pagan cultures that preceded Christianity, virgin birth stories abounded. The long list of pagan gods born of virgins includes: Romulus and Remus, Zoroaster, Buddha, Mithras, Chrishna, Osiris-Aion, Agdistis, Attis, Tammuz, Adonis, Korybas, Perseus, and Dionysus.

The Sun?Here is another common theory, quoted from S. Acharya’s "The Origins of Christianity and the Quest for the Historical Jesus:" "The reason why all these pagan narratives are so similar to a "god-man" is that these stories were based on the movements of the sun through the heavens, an astrotheological development that can be found throughout the planet because the sun and the 12 zodiac signs can be observed around the globe.

"When you see cross the crux for the first time, you’ll understand now why you came this way. ‘Cause the truth you might be running from is so small, but it’s as big as the promise of a coming day."

My question is: Don’t you think that it’s more likely that the cross is relevant to Christians because Jesus was hung on one? It’s neat to see patterns in the stars (any pattern, cross or otherwise), but they’re hardly essential to Christianity.

Help with a German Shepherd? (please read the details)?
I want to get a German Shepherd. I have saved up all my money to get one (kind of like where the red fern grows, except I don’t live in the country, all I want is a dog and nothing else)and am willing to pay for the care of the dog (vet bills won’t be a problem, so don’t bring it up) My parents don’t want to get an another dog, not because of the cost, but because we already have one. We have a small dog, but she doesn’t listen to us and I want a dog that I can take care of and no one else.I know German Shepherds shed a lot, and they need lots of activity, but I am willing to take care of that. What do I do? How to I convince my parents to let me get one? Please DO NOT give me reasons on why I shouldn’t get a dog, because I need help. I know that if I prove that I have earned a dog, then I will get one. They are not that stubborn.
my other dog is wall trained, but she doesn’t listen to us, only when we have treats, but even then she goes beserk, and it is very hard to get her attention. I am planning on getting a gsd from a rescue, and I have researched the breed and told my parents.
We have a backyard,a pool, and a large park nearby so the dog can get plenty of exercise. I will not stop taking care of the dog, because I would have worked much too hard to get it just to stop caring for it.
EVERY dog I have trained listens to me, just not my dog, she is stubborn. I believe I can train a gsd, because i’ve trained other dogs before that their owners had a hard time training.

Well first you may want to research about german shepherds and really get to know the bred. For example, If you dont live somewhere that they can get lots of activity/exercise, its not fair to the dog to get one. But If you feel that you will be able to give a dog a good home and pay for the vet bills to get it properly taken care of, etc…then you should show your parents that you are responsible, have really researched the bred, know what it takes to keep it, and so on. Also, parents like hard facts, information, and a good argument, so before you talk to them again about getting the dog, organize yourself. Worked for me getting a cell phone. Hopefully this helped alittle.

Oh, you really should get a rescue dog instead of a full bred. Rescue dogs often are put to sleep because no one wants them. Where as a full bred is 99% of the time assured a home. Rescued is my favorite breed. :) Look at it as a chance to save a life and make a new friend.

"We have a small dog, but she doesn’t listen to us and I want a dog that I can take care of and no one else."

Why don’t you "take care" of the dog you already have and try training her? I’m sure your relationship is liable to change into a healthier one.

EDIT: seriously, you’re going around in circles here.
"EVERY dog I have trained listens to me, just not my dog, she is stubborn. I believe I can train a gsd, because i’ve trained other dogs before that their owners had a hard time training."

listen, your dog is either trained or not trained. if she doesn’t listen to you, then she’s obviously NOT trained. If you’re giving up so easily on the dog you have already, then I honestly don’t think you should get another dog. It is not 100% guaranteed that you will be able to adopt a trainable GSD from the shelter. Most rescue dogs have to go through alot of vigorous training. Emotional and stressful, yes. But is the outcome worth it? Oh yes.
And what happens if the GSD you adopt is stubborn like the dog you currently have. Are you just going to end up adopting another dog just because it is "stubborn" and you "can’t train it"?
Cheeze. | Jan 03, 2010

Just talk to your parents. I’ve noticed that continuously nagging at my parents eventually makes them give in so that I’ll simply stop nagging.

Tell them that if you get another dog, your current dog will not only be more sociable but might actually listen to you guys. Dogs do better when they have other dogs to socialize with.Think about how much security a German Shepherd could provide your family vs a tiny dog. You don’t have to worry about popping a larger dogs lungs (like with a small dog) when you hug them. lol.
Seyva23 | Jan 03, 2010

if you can promise your parents that not only will you look after the GSD but will also start showing more attention to the one you already have. A dog will not listen no matter the breed if time is not spent with them in training. Tell them that a GSD is your fancy and that you have saved up enough for the purchase of a good quality pup, I just hope that you will not stop looking after him when he becomes an adult, because then your parents will end up getting rid of both of them because then you will have two dogs that will not listen.
KIKEENONO | Jan 03, 2010

Talk to your parents about it and show them how it will make you more responsible. And you should also tell them you will take care of the dog and that you have done your research so you know a lot about the breed.
I <3 CHOCO! | Jan 03, 2010

As a GSD Owner I can tell you that they are very intelligent and loyal… And owning one is a beautiful experience. However Any dog is trainable, and training a dog creates a strong bong… My advice is convince your parents that you are ready to have another dog by training the one you already have… Who knows maybe you’ll find that you do like the dog you have already. I had three dogs, now I only have two, My ex-girlfriend took my Pug because of his compact size. And kept her little angel… So I kept Leo (my GSD) and her little angel(a Jack russell/dal mix); which I at one point thought didn’t like me… Now that I’m Deployed, my parents tell of how both dogs really miss me… Which just proves that when you show your Dog that you are capable of being a leader, they will follow blindly, and build a strong and lasting bond…
eric_el_kiki02 | Jan 03, 2010

If you can’t train the little dog, the German Shepherd will walk all over you.

If you want another dog, prove you can take care of the dog you have.
Jenny | Jan 03, 2010

First, I’m not going to tell you not to get a dog. As someone who has gone through the same thing, I believe that it best to give you the information that will prove to both you and your parents that a dog is a good idea. However, I am going to ask you to rethink a GSD. Why do you want one? If it is because they are pretty (which was the main reason I wanted one) you need to look closer. GSDs are high energy, high shedding, and sometimes difficult to train. Be careful of falling into the trap of picking a dog based on how they look. Focus instead on why you want a dog, and look up the dog that best matches that criteria. If you want an exercise partner, look for high energy dogs. If you want a companion, some dogs will be more affectionate than others. Coming to your parents with the right dog is a huge step in the right direction. It wasn’t until I came to my parents with the breed I wanted, the reason I wanted it, and the ways it was good for our family that our search for a dog truly became serious, and my dad finally agreed.

Next, you’re actually lucky for that small dog. Ask your parents if you can take total care of the dog: feeding, walking, grooming, training… Everything. Treat the small dog as if it were your new dog. Prove to your parent that you will take responsible care of your new dog by doing so with the little dog. It will go a long way. One warning though: Don’t try giving your parents a deadline, like "If I take perfect care of the small dog for one month can I have my dog?" because that only proves you will take responsibility for a limited time, and you will eventually pass it off to your parents.

Oh, and one thing about being able to take care of high energy dogs: its easier in theory than in practice. You wouldn’t believe how much more difficult it is to convince yourself to take your dog for a two hour walk the twentieth time. And don’t forget about cold days, windy days, rainy days… Your dog’s energy won’t wait for the weather. Mine sure doesn’t.

Do you think that independent films and filmmakers can be considered great?
I ask this because anytime someone mentions great films or filmmakers, no one seems to mention the ones that are independent. Why is that? Is because they’re independent and don’t have big budgets? That shouldn’t matter filmmaking is an art form and it shouldn’t matter how much money you have.

For example, I think films like One Hour Photo and Lost in Translation are among some of the best films I’ve ever seen and their directors are great as well and should be recognized as great 50 years from now. What do you think?

I definitely agree with you, independent film making is great
I think that the reason that they aren’t named when people talk about great film makers is because they aren’t known, the same happens with music.
If you talk to anyone about great film makers they may tell you about, Spielberg or anybody else but only the ones who make big budget films.
charliest | Jan 07, 2010

I like the 2 films you mentioned, but somehow I don’t think they’re going to be considered as great as "Citizen Kane" "2001" "Casablanca" "Gone With the Wind" & other truly great films, not 5, 50 or 500 years from now.
See the sources below for a few "50 best independent film" lists & an article on indies.

How can i improve my acting skills?
I am in the drama club at my school, last year we did Peter Pan and I got to play Tinkerbell :D
But this year I want a role with more lines! Haha, so what are some ways I can improve my skills?

Feel what you are acting. You have to feel what your character feels so you can make it real. Another way is to show clearly the emotions of the character. I hope it helps you (: Good Luck !
AndD..! | Dec 15, 2009

Practice in front of a mirror (learn some lines and just talk to yourself through the mirror).
By practicing in front of a mirror you can learn the best body language (movements and facial expressions) as well as learning what works best for that role.

You should also try to act like the character that you are looking to play by just playing their role in normal day life. Especially for the scenarios where you have to ask yourself, "What would they do in this situation? What would they say? etc". This helps bring you to a better understanding of your character.

Good acting is attributed to (but not limited to):
. Good listening
. Good reacting
. Good reading
. Good relating
. Good control/use of your mind, body and expressions
. Good projection
. Good direction and good with taking direction
. Good attitude
. Good assertiveness
. Good health and fitness
. Good imagination
. Good improvisation
. Good self esteem and self worth (not arrogant)
. Good drive and commitment
. Good eye and body language
. Good judgment
. Good risk taking (feeling the fear and doing it anyway)

The key is to learn your lines and really believe what you are saying and who you are saying it to. That’s all there is to it.

What sin of omission does Alice commit in "Last Days of Alice"?
Alice grown lazy, mammoth but not fat,
Declines upon her lost and twilight age;
Above in the dozing leaves the grinning cat
Quivers forever with his abstract rage:

Whatever light swayed on the perilous gate
Forever sways, nor will the arching grass,
Caught when the world clattered, undulate
In the deep suspension of the looking-glass.

Bright Alice! always pondering to gloze
The spoiled cruelty she had meant to say
Gazes learnedly down her airy nose
At nothing, nothing thinking all the day.

Turned absent-minded by infinity
She cannot move unless her double move,
The All-Alice of the world’s entity
Smashed in the anger of her hopeless love,

Love for herself who, as an earthly twain,
Pouted to join her two in a sweet one;
No more the second lips to kiss in vain
The first she broke, plunged through the glass alone

would this be a good movie?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_vs._ Jason_vs._Ash

this would be so cool am i right my fav horror cheracters!!!!

I always thought it’d be interesting to have an all-out epic horror film where they have a large group of horror villians face off.

Micheal Myers
Leatherface
Jason
Freddy
Ash
Pinhead
Ghostface

You know what I mean, they all slaughter the people in the city and then at the end have a big epic battle. It would be a gloriously stupid movie but it would be insanely entertaining.
