How would the empirical formula of magnesium change if not all the magnesium is burned?
In a magnesium and oxygen reaction, how would the empirical formula of magnesium have been affected if all the magnesium in the crucible had not burned? Please help!! Thanks.
if not all the magnesium is burned that means, it means that all the Oxygen got used up and the magnesium didnt. Which means that we are only left woth mg and NO o2………
I would assume that the empirical formula Mg: o= 1:0

SPARTANS -the movie '300' Inaccuracies and battle techniques.?
besides from the obvious mythical creature bullshit what was inaccurate about the movie from the real spartan era? also what battle techniques did they use that was incorrect or left out compared to what they actually did? thanks if you know the answers cause i surely don’t!
The most glaring inaccuracy is that on the last day of battle the "300 Spartans" did not fight alone. There were also 700 Thespians, 400 Thebans that made up the rear guard that defended the pass with the 300 Spartans, so the rest of the Greek Army could retreat.
Louie O | Nov 22, 2009
It’s quicker to note the accuracies. They were in Greece and there was a battle. That’s pretty much it. It was based off of a comic book and not meant to be historically accurate. Too bad, as a more true to history epic would have made a better movie.
Steve W | Nov 22, 2009
Well they fought in a phalanx formation, with hoplon shields, both those features are historically accurate.
Andy | Nov 22, 2009
The ephors were elected magistrates, not some kind of diseased manic priest caste.
There was no dispute in Sparta about what the main army was going to do once the religious festival of Carneia was over – they were going to march off and fight the Persians. So, the whole sub plot about Queen Gorgo and the Spartan traitor opposing this is completely fictitious.
There’s no primary source evidence suggesting Xerxes was some 7 foot tall giant.
Ephialtes was a goat herder who lived in the mountains, not a deformed refugee from Spartan ’selection’ at birth.
All Spartan warriors wore their hair long, and had beards but no moustaches (moustaches were against the law).
The last stand wasn’t just Leonidas and his Spartans; some 1200 or so other Greeks (mostly Thespians and Thebans) were also present and got wiped out as well.
Battle techniques:
Spartans of this era wore armour made from folded layers of laminated linen padded with leather, rather than fighting more or less nude.
In combat, they fought in an 8 man deep phalanx, shoulder to shoulder, using a spear about 8 feet long, thrust overarm, as their primary weapon. A combination of the momentum provided by the depth and compactness of the formation and the reach of the spears was what made a phalanx effective in battle.
In the movie they fight as individuals with the xiphos, a short (about 2 feet long) sword, much less effective in close combat than the Persian sabre style sword.Spartans would only have fought in this style as a last resort.

Frank Miller’s version was for a comic book and not to be taken as fact, the film 300 depicted the comic book version of events.
King Leonidas did not throw the Persians down the well when ask for " earth and water" this was done some 15yrs earlier when Darius was Persian King
There was never any dispute over the Spartan army marching to Thermopylae, the problem was that the religious festival "carneia" forbid any Spartan bearing arms, also the Olympic games were taking place.
King Leonidas was well into his 50’s and could well have been 60yrs old at the time.
Leonidas spent two weeks at the Middle gate repairing the Phocan wall, this wall not only gave protection but hid his low numbers from Persian view.
The picked 300 Spartans were not the elite, rather those that had living sons.
The Greek allies at Thermopylae numbered 6 – 7000 troops.
The Persian army numbered some 250,000….not the 5 million said to have been the invasion force.
The Greeks fought in relays in order to give the men rest, food and tend to their wounds, they fought in a phalanx and would never have broke ranks to fight as individuals. They wore armour, never fought in their cloaks, wore their hair very long and hanging from their helmets in six braids.
An ex Spartan King Demeratus was an advisor to Xerxes.
Leonidas had known for weeks that a track over the mountains could lead the Persians around his position, 1000 men were sent to defend this track.
The battle lasted 3 days, it was the night of the 2nd day that Leonidas knew the Persians were behind him and dismissed the army, Some 1200 remained at his side in order to slow the Persian advance. Leonidas decided to fight outside the phocan wall for the first time in order to inflict the most casualties, he died very early on and the allies retreated to a small hill. These last few men being killed with arrows and spears, the Persians not wishing to fight hand to hand.
Some 20,000 Persians died during the battle and Xerxes had these quickly buried in order not to show his army the true extent of his casualties, Leonidas was decapitated and his head left on view. 298 Spartans died during the battle not 300, Sparta put a price on the head of the goat farmer "Epialtes" who had led the Persians over the mountain pass, however he was to be killed in an argument unrelated to his treachery, the Spartans still payed the man.
As you can see the film was very wide of the mark

Whats the majority of muslims that believe in creation over evolution?
alright i respect your beliefs, but i dont see how you can believe god created man and woman.
is this a general belief amongst muslims?
because i can sure as hell tell you (as an ex-christian) that most christians see Genisis (story of creation) as just a myth to explain how we came to be.
this can be seen in EVERY culture eg prometheus gave fire from olympus to humans so they could survive (greek mythology)
Yes, Allah created humans

ALL MUSLIM believe in creation
________________________
And he makes comparisons for us, and forgets his own (Origin and) Creation: He says "Who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones (at that)?" (78) Say "He will give them life Who created them for the first time! For He is well-versed in every kind of creation!? (79) "The same Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, when behold! Ye kindle therewith (your own fires)! (80) "Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like thereof?"? Yea, indeed! for He is the Creator Supreme, of skill and knowledge (infinite)! (81) Verily, when He intends a thing, His command is "Be" and it is! (82) So glory to Him in Whose hands is the dominion of all things; and to Him will ye be all brought back. (83)

I am open minded to the evolution theory. But right now I am not an ape, right now I am a human being and that is all the matter to me
Catalyst | Nov 18, 2009
Biologists agree animals and humans got here through Evolution by Natural Selection. We share our genetic make up with animals and plants.
For example we and chimps are 98% the same. One of our chromosomes is the result of a fusion of two primate chromosomes (chimps have one more chromosome pair than us). Our chromosome #2 was formed by the fusion of two primate chromosomes, and scientists can prove this. We can exactly pin point where it happened and we have. We can even get as precise as down to the base pairs (which is in the hundred of thousands of degree).
Evolution is backed up by fossils, molecular study, a ton of observations and tests. Different species had been created in a lab as well as having bacteria adapt to eating completely new food, which is a direct proof of Evolution.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"So technically speaking if you do not believe in the creation of the first human being Adam. Then you can not be classed as a muslim but you are kafir."
It does not matter whether I am Muslim, kafir, American, Iraqi, black, a woman, or a three headed child. What matters is fact and Evolution is both a theory and a fact.
Adam could not have existed as evidence clearly does not point towards that. Thousands of millions of tests do no point to that. Everything that can be observed, tested, and recorded points to the fact that there can NOT be an Adam and Eve.
"So when in between the time when Adam was put on the earth, and now. It is safe to say that humans have been "evolving" into different races."
again that is not what evolution states …. humans weren’t magically interjected into the ecologic system … they evolved, they came, from earlier species of animals … we are no different in our origins than other animals … we are in fact a primate, a mammal, and an animal
"But lets not get carried away and look at evolution with the eyes of "darwinist athiests" who seem to believe that a dead matter, can become a living matter all on its own, and many other myths associated with it."
Good thing Evolution has nothing to do with abiogenesis. Evoltuion says nothing about the beginning of life and I wish people who hated evolution so much would get that.
However there are many hypothesis with merit and actual evidence to back them up, unlike the claim that a magical invisible man did it, that can show how primitive in organic matter replicated. Why is that important? Because the central pillar for life is self replication.
"If you can not see how an Allmighty God, has created everything around us, and how easy it is for him to create man and women. Then perhaps your blind in some form or another."
I can return this babble back to you in the same fashion and claim that if you think God exists then you are blind.
John Islie | Nov 18, 2009
John, this is a slightly tricky question.
In Koran God states that he "created Adam out of mud, and then put the soul into his body".
It also states that "the body was formed in heaven, but was put down to earth, when adam and eve broke God’s rules"
So technically speaking if you do not believe in the creation of the first human being Adam. Then you can not be classed as a muslim but you are kafir.
However, we can clearly see nowadays that humans are not the same. They have different races, skin colours, heights etc etc.
So when in between the time when Adam was put on the earth, and now. It is safe to say that humans have been "evolving" into different races.
But that does not mean that God was not aware of it, or had nothing to do with it.
In Koran God says "And we have made you into many nations, so you may come to know each other"..
So, clearly that evolution exists and there is no denying of it. But lets not get carried away and look at evolution with the eyes of "darwinist athiests" who seem to believe that a dead matter, can become a living matter all on its own, and many other myths associated with it.
If you can not see how an Allmighty God, has created everything around us, and how easy it is for him to create man and women. Then perhaps your blind in some form or another.

Yep, Muslims believe in the story of Creation
yahoomuslimah | Nov 18, 2009
All Muslims believe that Allah (God) created us as human…we don’t believe that we were evolved from apes/monkeys or whatever…I ask those who believe that we were evolved from apes or monkey…are you doubting power of Allah (God)? Allah (God) has the power to do anything and yes he created us as human and we DID NOT evolved from apes/monkeys…
I hope I helped
