When MGM first released Moonstruck on DVD they inexplicably did so with an corrupt pan and scan transfer. They’ve rectified this status with a original deluxe edition that restores its well-behaved aspect ratio and with a collection of recent extras. Moonstruck was the My Colossal Rotund Geek Wedding of its day only infinitely better and about an Italian family as opposed to a Greek one. Watching Norman Jewison’s film again, you realize fair how grand Nia Vardalos’ film is heavily indebted to it. If Moonstruck is La Boheme than Greek Wedding is Tony and Tina’s Wedding.

It’s time to employ your old-fashioned disc as a coaster as this edition is definitely worth the double dip. MGM has taken TBS’ dinner and a movie to the next level by including three recipe cards with attractive Italian meals so that you can do your believe cooking and eat it while watching the movie.
Carried over from the previous edition is the audio commentary by Cher, director Norman Jewison and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley. Both Jewison and Shanley talk about their fascination with death while Cher talks about the importance of costume and how it helps her catch into character. This is a solid commentary with incandescent observations and salubrious anecdotes from everyone.

“Moonstruck: At the Heart of an Italian Family” takes us through the genesis of the film mixing interviews done at the time of filming (Cage and Cher) and fresh ones (Aiello and Dukakis) . There is sizable, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage as Jewison and Shanley seize us through the film telling several consuming anecdotes.
“Pastas to Pastries: The Art of Aesthetic Italian Food” is a tour of some of the best restaurants in Miniature Italy, in particular on Mulberry Street. You have six different places to decide from and their chefs explain how to effect a few choice foods guaranteed to invent you hungry. If you adore to cook and eat than this extra is for you.
Finally there is the “Music of Moonstruck” that examines the role that music plays in the movie. The first screening went badly because the music was all injurious.
A spacious flick. Five stars is not enough. Cher & Cage are awesome together. Gardenia & Dukakis (as Cher’s parents) are almost as knowing. The backdrops of Manhattan and Brooklyn notice terrific. Some gigantic & memorable scenes… 1. Cher meeting Cage for the first time in the bakery basement, 2. Cage expressing his savor for her the morning after, 3. Dukakis & Mahoney having dinner together & walking home, 4. Cher & Cage, (and her father and his “date”) at the opera, and 5. The family sitting around the kitchen table when husband to-be Aiello shows up. Six Oscar nominations – and three awards. Cher & Dukakis were very deserving and this was easily the best screenplay of the year. How director Norman Jewison didn’t score the Oscar is beyond me. I ran out and bought the delux ’06 edition the week it was released. Itsy-bitsy describe upgrade – the widescreen is definitely better than the stout frame, but there’s no impprovement on the sound… dare I say it’s worse. The music and most of the dialogue sounds like it is standard stereo (perhaps even mono at some points) … but the exact kicker is the background music is so loud at times you can’t hear the character talking. Mammoth movie, but I feel it deserved better treament on the re-release.

Over the years we have had Platoon, Chubby Metal Jacket, Siege of Firebase Gloria, Rambo II, Hamburger Hill and other Vietnam war movies. These movies showed the harrowing, gritty, and savage aspects that the Vietnam war doled out on soldiers.
Now, what about those soldiers that did not reach home? Those soldiers that were left leisurely? Those soldiers that the U.S. Government did not reflect were worth rescuing because it was not politically feasible? Well, that brings us to Outlandish Valor.
This is a movie about Prisoners of War who were not forgotten by a group of Veterans who do aside everything, do themselves in harms intention, and dared to defy the U.S. Government to do the factual thing and bring those soldiers home.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Uncommon Valor! Click Here
We have Gene Hackman who is the retired Army colenel risking all to rep his son and bring him home. Very noteworthy portayal here by Hackman who is obvious to surmount all obstacles and do whatever is principal and lead his group of men to net the prisoners.
Fred Ward, in a very first-rate role, is an ex-tunnel rat that is serene very panicked by a quite traumatic experience he had in a tunnel in Vietnam replete with shiny nightmares. Honest as Hackmans character is detached shy by nightmares from the Korean war. Ward, accepting his fears and the trials and tribulations to follow, knows that they cannot leave POW’s slow.
Randall “Tex” Cobb is another one recruited who never quite regained touch with society after the war but is admirable in the scheme that he gives everything in his soul to produce distinct this mission is a success.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Uncommon Valor! Click Here
Reb Brown, not a widely known actor as compared to some other characters in this movie, does a gorgeous job as a demolitons expert who gives his life to ensure the success of bringing the boys home.
Patrick Swayze is the young but tough-as-nails ex-Marine who will go to Hell and encourage to be share of this mission due to his father being shot down in Vietnam and who is Missing in Action. When the other Veterans learn of Swayze’s fathers space, they adopt Swayze as one of their maintain and Swayze does an gracious turn as an inexperienced but very, very definite team player.
Tim Thomerson and Harold Sylvster are the helicopter pilots that absolutely refuse to finish, and, no matter what the odds, they will flit that team and those POW’s out of anxiety no matter what it takes. Both give suited performances as gargantuan pilots under heavy stress.
Lastly we have Robert Stack who, like Gene Hackman’s character, has a son who is missing in action and has a vested interest in this mission. Stack finances the whole operation and holds his ground when he is threatened by officials within the government to call off the mission. Stack portrays his fraction very nicely.
This movie is truly top-notch and sends a very certain and decisive message. The United States government thinks it is not worth the anxiety or politics or peril to retrieve men lost in a very terrifying and very horrifying war. After what those men have been through in the war and in a prison camp, it is worth every dollar, every ounce of damage, every fall of sweat, every bound shed and every conviction of what is accurate to go and net those men out of that Hell hole and bring them home. There should be no hesitation whatsoever. You DO NOT leave anyone unhurried…….ever. I would give this movie 10 stars if I could.
Colonel Cal Rhodes (Gene Hackman), US Army (ret) is the last of a long line of dedicated, if doomed, military officers. Worried by visions that his son, a Vietnam War MIA, might tranquil be alive in some camp in SE Asia, and with the backing of a Perot-ish entrepreneur (Robert Stack), he assembles a motley crew of feeble special forces officers for an ad-hoc search-and-rescue mission into Laos. The vets, who’ve settled into civilian life (all walks) are reluctant, but Hackman manages to sell them – we lost, and in America, that’s like going bankrupt, he tells them. That’s unacceptable (this movie came out, what, 1985? ) The film has two phases, preparing the vets for their return to combat readiness, and the final mission itself.
I didn’t want to peer this flick when it came out, thinking it would be some screed suitable out of Soldier of Fortune, with Hollywood trying to bring its make-believe to a war that didn’t want it. Instead, “Curious Valor” excels – mostly because it eschews most of what would soon become normal for the Rambo movies. The troops here aren’t cold-calculating super-warriors who declare in hushed-Sly Stallone tones, and the Vietnamese aren’t sidekicks who inform pidgin. Instead, the vets are rusty and reluctant. As Sailor, Randal “Tex” Cobb (who appears barechested thruought, wears a hand grenade and sleeps through Co. Rhodes’ chinese firedrills) plays the least adjusted, and most combat ready of the vets, and it isn’t positive how considerable he’s there for silly relief or honest there to remind how many vets hadn’t readjusted to civilian life. His opposite is Pat Swayze, an ex-marine (4th Recon Division, Rhodes tells us) who was too young to have served, but has his contain reasons for having to go. Also on board are Fred Ward, and Reb Brown – the latter playing a prodigy on the subject of mines and other explosives who doesn’t let the incendiary nature of his craft preserve him from bringing a Mr. Rogers crooked to the display. (“Today boys and girls…”) Though hasty getting up to accelerate, they remain rusty through the film, unsure of themselves and completely mortal. When the CIA intercepts the crew (the vanguard for the complacent politicians who lost no sons or brothers to the war) and seizes their weapons, the vets must go on with 2nd hand guns – cast-offs from earlier wars, and face a war that they’ve never really left. The action scenes are sketched well and support away from being exploitative, while the script manages to verge from serious to light when it matters, and never panders to any jingoism. This is not a Rambo movie. This is not about stamping “victory” where history shows defeat – but rather about grown men facing the consequences of their defeat when their nation would rather they fair forget about it.

Simply speaking, Lady and the Tramp is my accepted Disney film of all time! In my conception, it is a 5 star masterpiece, and I would give it more if I could! I remember when I was objective 4 years passe, watching the characters Lady, Tramp, Jock, Steady, and the Siamese Cats light up my eyes, as well as my TV cloak, as no other movie (except maybe Pete’s Dragon or Superman) has done for me before or since. The music and songs are especially exquisite, especially “Bella Notte.” And the thrilling climax (which I won’t spoil for the peope who have yet to observe it) ranks with the “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” climaxes! I remember having to wait almost a decade for Disney to re-release this classic on video so that I could replace my worn-out taped version. Now that I have it on both VHS and DVD, and both editions are in widescreen, I can be pleased it for years to near as I never concept I’d be able to! Your kids will admire it, and so will anyone who’s unexcited young at heart! Select it on DVD today! Don’t beget the same mistake I did over 10 years ago! (And don’t let the lack of special features conclude you, either!)
This movie is about a purebred Cocker Spaniel, who is later named Lady, that is given to the wife of, as Lady refers to him, Jim-dear. She has 2 neighbor dog friends, Jock and Proper whom she confides in often. As she gets older, Lady’s owner is expecting a baby, in which Lady feels like she is no longer a fraction of the family. She meets a mutt from the streets, Tramp, who comes by after being chased by the city dog catcher. They meet again after Lady escapes the arms of Aunt Sarah in a pet store because she is buying a muzzle to avoid Lady harming her cats. Tramp comes to her rescue to fetch the muzzle off and they go for a romantic dinner at Tony’s (spaghetti no less!) . They consume some time on the streets, win to know eachother, and arrive to pick up they like eachother. Lady realizes that she needs to return home, she does so, and is caught by the city dog catcher, tossed into the pound where she meets Tramp’s “friends”, and is told everything about his street life. When Aunt Sarah retrieves her from the pound, she is then chained up outside to a leaky dog house. Tramp comes by to seek her some time after, and she tells him she doesn’t ever want to ogle him again. Shortly after, Lady notices a rat reach into the yard. It goes upstairs into the baby’s room, and Lady tries to discontinuance it, but is serene chained up. Tramp hears her barking and comes to leer what’s going on. She tells him there is a rat in the baby’s room, he goes into the house, up to the baby’s room, and fights to sustain the rat from the baby. He makes a lot of noise in doing so along with knocking over the baby’s crib. Lady gets loose, runs upstairs after Tramp, but Aunt Sarah soon shows up, calling the dog pound to retrieve Tramp, and throw Lady into a room where she cannot find to the baby. As soon as Jim-dear and his wife return from their hasten that very same evening, they witness a dog pound carriage outside their house. They race home, ask what happened, let Lady out of the room she was trapped in, and they all go after the dog pound carriage to achieve Tramp (Dependable getting injure in the process by following the carriage and knocking it over to do Tramp) . Tramp is saved, given a dog license, and a home with Lady and her family. Then they all live happily ever after!

I was 12 when the Partridge Family first came out and immediately fell in admire with David Cassidy! At age 50 now, when I spy these DVDs, it impartial brings me assist to that nostalgic time. It allows me to remember the times when my 5 older brothers and sisters all lived in the same house, both my parents were alive, we had a dog and a bird, and I had no responsibilities other than household chores and doing my homework. PF was unbiased a immense, wholesome present. When Rueben Kincaid started getting more and more face time with the family, I view it added a agreeable boost to the present! And as other reviewers have mentioned, it is fun now to grasp out some of the stars like Farrah Fawcett, Arte Johnson, Maryann Mobley, Lift Reiner, etc.

A few years ago, I found David Cassidy’s book in a bookstore for about $5.00 so naturally, I bought it. The first thing I notion of as I thumbed through it to first check out the pictures, was that scandal that he had gone through when he had posed nude for Rolling Stone! I will never forget my girlfriends and I going from store to store to recognize if we could collect that vow. We were too troubled to ask the store clerk if they had it, so in the destroy, we never were able to accumulate one! I was in for many surprises when I sat down and read his book. Encourage when you are such a young, innocent age, you obviously don’t mediate of your idols as being anything but “pure”, for lack of a better term. So years later, I am all grown up and reading the things that went on not only in David’s life encourage then, but the rest of PF cast! I was frightened to bag out that Susan Dey was suffering from anorexia and for days on demolish would eat nothing but carrots. So mighty so, that Danny Bonaduce was quoted as saying his first see of her in a bikini was frightening — she was nothing but skin and bones and her skin took on a faint orangey color from her consumption of the carrots! And of course, reading about Danny’s brushes with the law and the temper on him that would always win him in pains. We never knew encourage then that Danny had advance from a broken home where his father would beat him all the time. David’s telling in his book of how he tried to be the older brother and guardian to Danny was heartwarming to say the least! He would try and shield Danny against the drugs and alcohol and mercurial women that were seeming to become a fragment of David’s life as he took his singing act on the road. I do remember seeing David in concert when I was 13 and that one of my sisters grudingly took me at my mother’s insistence. She said to her “how lickety-split we forget when your older sister took YOU to survey the Beatles!” Upright, proper!
David was also very candid in things that had happened to him relieve in the PF days. How he and his long time friend, Sam Hyman, were “guests” of the “plaster casters” who were known for making plaster molds of male performer’s private parts! Or the many, many female fans who would accost him either leaving the space after a day’s work on PF or leaving his house to go to work. He was adamant in the book about wanting the reader to know that he never EVER took advantage of the very young girls and that he was in no diagram, shape or produce a phedophile. He said he was always courteous and righteous to these young girls but sent them on their intention. Maybe there are some people out there that would doubt this but for some reason, as I have gotten to know the grown-up David Cassidy, I tend to own him. There is a classiness to this guy that maybe wasn’t really all there befriend then, but he has seemed to embrace it now. I like the man he has become.

So……I watched the indicate faithfully until it went off the air. I bought each and every album and played them until there were too many skips and scratches to devour them (and even then I would unruffled listen to them for a while!) I remember being 14 and one day honest quietly taking down each and every recount of David and the PF from the walls of my bedroom. In the benefit of my mind, they all would discontinue from the many hours of enjoyment I had listening to their music and watching their point to. I guess I was growing up. Then at 15, my mother suddenly passed away and everything changed. I mean EVERYTHING. My family fought and all left the house to leave honest my father and I to weather this storm of tremendous sadness and deep depression that her passing brought on. I had no plan how to heal his broken heart and he had no thought how to heal mine. So we stayed away from one another in that immense house and dealt with our exertion the plot we each saw fit; he, in alcohol, and me in my PF re-runs and albums. I had played David’s album “Love” so many times that I knew each song abet and forth, and when I would play it then at age 15, it made me smile for a diminutive while and brought me support to that better dwelling and time. I knew from then on that things were probably not getting great better but David and the PF filled that void at the time of remembering how expansive my life had been encourage then and how young and ecstatic I was. I will admit that even now, I mild achieve on the DVDs and/or the music when things are getting me down.
Wonderful memories. Thank you all for listening.
I waited a few years for the release of seasons three and four of the Partridge Family and had completely forgotten about the introduction of Ricky Segall in final season. For some dull reason, Shroud Gems decided to add this exiguous afflict in the neck to “perk things up”. My quiz is, what on earth were they thinking? For many fans of the Brady Bunch, the addition of cousin Oliver was a thorn in the side but at least his character was added come the extinguish of the season and he never sang. From the first episode of Partridge season four, Icky Ricky is all over the station. You remember that kid who sat next to you on the airplane and wouldn’t cessation screaming for nine hours? Same thing. It’s comely when he is simply sitting around throwing out his doinky one liners but when he launches into one of his supposed-to-be-cute-off-kilter-tone-deaf-hokey-songs, I net myself wanting to shove speedily drying cement in my ears. What makes it worse is- as the kid screeches through these throwaway numbers- everyone’s got a cornball smile on their face (as if? ) . Thank goodness for DVD remotes.
That aside, the shows spy incredible, the colors are vibrant and the songs are groovy as ever…….um, that’s the Partridge tunes thank you.
UPDATE: Objective finished watching the entire situation and lucky for us, the microscopic brat disappears half-way through the season. Suitable for us.

I definitely am always in the mood for something incredibly comic at times. That has been the case with the ABC indicate America’s Funniest Home Videos. Since its debut in 1989 with Bob Saget, the prove has been a constant in our lives and television. Yet, the display has really been a loyal spot for laughter. While the demonstrate has constantly changed with the times, so have the hosts as well from Bob Saget who played Danny Tanner from Elephantine House, the queer short-lived duo of Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang, and our modern master of ceremonies Tom Bergeron who has done well as the current host of Hollywood Squares. The quiz for Beregeron is could he bellow as the host, the reply is yes.

America’s Funniest Home Videos, Volume 1 is a behold at the first season through Tom Bergeron as the host. The DVD station includes several episodes from his first year the host, including side-spliting video clips that objective are incredibly amusing in some cases and other unfortunately aren’t. The collection also includes famous episodes like the 300th total series episode, and of course the usual $100,000 sizable prize note.
All in all, I personally haven’t seen all of the first year Tom Bergeron has hosted with America’s Funniest Home Videos, but I definitely know that he feelings of funniness are there. Stream Rikyu Movie Online
I remember seeing Rikyu in the theater, and it is a gem. The DVD transfer, however, is far and away the worst I have ever seen–so dim that frequently you cannot philosophize who is speaking, or even what characters are in the scene. So contrasty that all details in the shadows and highlights are washed out. The quality of the video distracts horribly from the account.
Avoid this print. Eventually, they will have to build a better one.
The rude rating I gave was for the DVD, which is sad. The aspect ratio is ignored and, sadly, no attempt is made to remaster the VHS print. The tale is magnificently told by Teshigahara – a central episode in Japanese cultural history, when two forces sought to influence the future of Japanese aesthetics. Hideyoshi, who was more or less Japan’s Lord Protector, disputed his master Rikyu in matters of taste. Rikyu advocated subtlety (the term “jimi”), while Hideyoshi, the flagrant extrovert, pushed for ostentatiousness (“hade”) . Since Rikyu was a mere monk and would not benefit down from his views on matters of taste (making Hideyoshi appear ridiculous with his solid-gold tea-ceremony chambers), who eventually won the debate was another demonstration of Hideyoshi’s relentless “hade.” If you witness at new Japan, the two forces are aloof at odds. A resplendent film, poorly served by this DVD. I have a VHS copy I purchased in Japan from Shochiku Video for about $30, letterboxed (with no subtitles) . You need to know a ample deal about Japanese history to follow everything, as an earlier viewer pointed out. Don’t let it daunt you, though. An added attraction is the music of the Japanese modernist composer Toru Takemitsu, who wrote music for Woman in the Dunes as well.

I don’t know what film noir means, but I mediate this is one. Anyway, this movie is a classic. It is an art film. To me, it falls in the category of sort of super-realistic or naturalistic films with protagonists who are not really gracious people in any celebrated meaning of the phrase, like Sam Peckinpah’s films. It may not be as capable as The Wild Bunch, but if you liked the Wild Bunch, you will like this movie, provided you can handle the hispanic, post-apocalyptic milieu. Another film that it is similar to is “Sucker Punch”. These are not films for everybody, but on the other hand if you are a fan of this type of tongue-in-cheek, over the top realism, you shouldn’t miss this one. I hope at least Paul Morrissey knows what a friendly film he made.

Watch How to Kill a Judge Movie Online
I really liked this film. It was not a work of genius, but it was very moving and didn’t bore. I happen to like Franco Nero (for those who don’t know him, if you like Bruce Willis’ films, you’ll probably like this) . It’s got lots of action and counterplots. Also, it’s in English which helps a lot. It’s not a heavy weight, but very bewitching nonetheless.

somewhat of an archeological experience, worthy like seeing Star
Wars or another 70′s movie, 30 years later. Yet, the changes
borne by society at gigantic during that time, and as shown in the
movie to the reveal, are perhaps not as colossal as what some
Buy,Download, Or Stream How to Kill a Judge! Click Here
people might reflect.
Intended commercially as a Eurofilm (Italy, Spain, Portugal,
etc.) at the time, but dubbed in English for international
release eventually, this work is somewhat of an acquired taste.
It will be appreciated by those wanting to glimpse some imagery of
the Sicilian country side, many cities that often appear very
similar to those found in countries of Roman influence. It also
is intelligent in its presentation of how public institutions
function and how public servants interact in that culture.
Another, perhaps more mundane and less glamorous aspect, is how
the movie suggests a closed-mindedness of the public at great,
whose imaginations, conception processes, rational building blocks
are dominated by the mass media’s output in terms of newspapers,
magazines, TV, and yes, even movies, such that, the human
subconscience is not as fair, independent, or free from
manipulation as most people would like to judge. At worst, with
a controlled, or small mass media, human minds follow in step
with Pavlov’s Dog, unless they explore out novel facts, new
information, unique sources, and balance facts out, to
independently execute good opinions and assessments.
In this tale, a director’s movie turns Sicily upside down, as
it candidly spins a biographical fable of a high ranking think,
who is immersed in the politics of the set, with economic
interests and power struggles and lobbies to boot. The director
actually becomes fragment of his believe movie, as the town’s reality is
then changed and shaped from its repercussions on the
part-fictional fable that the audience sees.
This movie will be appreciated by those alive to on following
politics and how things sometimes are played out slack the
scens, or how jaded people they deem they do, in some regions
such as Southern Italy, etc.
In the extras section of the DVD, Director Damiano Damiani explains
that the movie’s goal wasn’t clearly understood by all critics.
Perhaps the lack of humor in this work, had a lot to do with it,
as it’s heavenly dry stuff.

QUEST FOR CAMELOT is a charming, if somewhat derivative, absorbing film the whole family should luxuriate in. Loosely based on the King Arthur and Excalibur story, the fable follows a young girl whose knight father was murdered by the rotten knight Ruber. She enlists the wait on of a blind young man and his magic bird, and also a two headed dragon, added for humor and ultimately to benefit achieve the day.
With animation reminiscent of early Disney and one CGI segment inviting a sleeping ogre, CAMELOT has all the ingredients for a musical toon. The songs written by Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster are more pop oriented but performed well by Bryan White, The Coors, Celine Dion and some of the cast members.

The characters are voiced nicely by Jessica Gelwig (Kayley), Cary Elwes (Garrett), Gary Oldman (Ruber), Jane Seymour (Julianna) ; Pierce Brosnan (Arthur), and of course Don Rickles/Eric Sluggish as the dragon.
It’s probably not destined to be a classic, but it’s ravishing entertainment for the whole clan.
Stretching the truth of the Knights Of The Round table, unbiased a petite, this is a gigantic chronicle for kids. Teaching them courage and trust and friendship.
The voices are gigantic, Cary Elwis, Pierce Brosnen, Jane Seymore, John Cleese, Don Rickles and the singing talents of the Corrs, Celene Dion and Steve Perry. This has a astounding catch and the soundtrack is unbiased as profitable. Spacious lyrics and music.

Johnny is a homeless, exasperated young man who can scream at enormous length and with Astronomical eloquence on an incredibly wide variety of topics. He is smarter than basically anyone he meets or ever will meet but he has no job, no residence to live and has no interest in having either. He arrives in London and sets out on an odyssey through the night to spread his philosophy on life to anyone who will listen. Doesn’t sound like worthy of a film huh? Develop no mistake this is one of the best films EVER made and contains a performance that can match De Niro, Hoffman or Brando any day. David Thewlis won best actor at cannes for his genuinely improbable performance in this masterpiece, and it’s easy to peek why. The raw power that he brings to this role has to be seen to be believed. Some people expressed surprise at his lack of an academy award nomination. Let’s be unbiased about it. The performances that end with you after the credits roll are too pleasant for oscars. Day-Lewis in Gangs Of Novel York,Samuel L. Jackson in Jungle Fever, Campbell Scott in Roger Dodger, Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire, Newman in Hud and most of all David Thewlis for this film. Ignore the hype about the violence in this film. Robert De Niro played a violent person in Raging Bull and what did he accumulate? A golden globe AND the oscar. David Thewlis lost because he played this role with unblinking conviction. De Niro was sexually violent in CAPE Terror and he was nominated at the academy awards. Thewlis and De Niro both took the contrivance come to these roles, so why did the academy overlook Thewlis? If this film didn’t derive the best actor and best director awards at Cannes I seriously deem that it would be virtually unknown. Now that Thewlis and director Mike Leigh are assist in the public scrutinize. Thewlis in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and Leigh with his harrowing VERA DRAKE, it is a perfect time for a original audience to gawk NAKED and examine it for what it is a masterpiece. Like always the best films are sadly unavailable on dvd. This film is one of those rare times when I’d even resolve for an extras free disc. If it wasn’t for criterion, original masterpieces like Glengarry Glen Ross and NAKED would arrive out on dvd with nothing but a trailer. There are two reasons why NAKED didn’t get the oscars for best actor, film or screenplay: money and politics. This film wasn’t marketable or politically moral. To peer an actor like Thewlis wasted in rubbish films like Dragonheart is ridiculous. You would consider that an awards academy who gave Sean Penn an oscar for his performance in Mystic River where he played an ultimately vicious and violent character and Anthony Hopkins who played one of the most unpleasant characters of current memory in The Silence Of The Lambs would at least give THewlis a nomination. Thewlis gives one of the best performances in the history of cinema and regardless of what the academy conception of the film Thewlis has created a character that will never be forgotten. At the kill of the day a film like NAKED can’t be measured by the box office or the amount of awards that it wins but by it’s impact on a visceral level.
I first saw this in a limited run-down art house theater. The auditorium was empty except for an primitive woman and two exclusive men who, lured by the title and the fishnet stockings on the current poster, had obviously arrive expecting a different kind of movie than the one they got. There were times during the screening when I almost felt as if the theater had become fragment of the movie.

This is a film that’s tantalizing, but, damn, it’s a bit of a sail. I’m frequently catching it behind at night, on IFC, and even unprejudiced a few moments almost always wear me out — definitely a movie that brings to your attention when you need to go to bed. I relish “Naked,” as a filmic experience, and it is indeed an wonderful one, but I have to wonder if this is what movies are supposed to do.
Still, it does what it does and what it does is unlike anything else you could want to obtain.

David Thewlis may have made a mistake starring in this because he is so vivid, so racy, so horrifying, so knowing, so shaded that to this day, I tranquil have a hard time seeing him as any other character — whether he’s in “Gangster #1″ or “The Prisoner of Azkaban.” It’s colossal work. He’ll gain you laugh, he’ll accomplish you bawl, he’ll compose you carsick.
I’d also like to nominate the scene between Johnny and the security guard — their discussion of time, and site, and barcodes and apocalypse and Dadaist nuns — to be elected to the office of the sizable scenes of the 90s, and to retract a situation on the larger list of the substantial cinematic moments altogether.
