There aren’t too many productions from television that one can call “suitable,” but Ken Burns’ The Civil War qualifies. Burns uses photographs, music, speech, maps and historical context to notify the chronicle of the second most formative event in the nation’s history. And since in those days people wrote…diaries, letters, journals…there is the written portray not fair of the titanic leaders, the politicians and generals, but of the wives and sweethearts, the nurses and doctors, newspaper editors and farmers. Most of all there are the words of the soldiers. Burns shows the importance and the sweep of the war, but in section he does it through the lives of average people caught up in events they may not have completely comprehended, but which they believed in.

If the words themselves have power, so do the voices. Burns recruited ample voices, some actors, some not, to sigh the words, distinctive voices that give broad resonance to what we explore. Julie Harris as Mary Chestnut, Charlie McDowell, a Virginia reporter, as Sam Watkins, Arthur Miller as William Sherman, Jason Robards as Grant, Studs Terkel as Benjamin Butler, Sam Waterston as Lincoln, and many others. He has David McCullough as the narrator. McCullough, an outstanding historian and writer, does a incredible job. Burns also uses a number of historians to underline key points. Foremost, in my understanding, is Shelby Foote. Foote is the author of the sage three-volume Civil War. With his Southern accent, celebrated sense and soft irony, he’s a exciting raconteur.
The program is never dry or plain. It is absorbing and emotional. Both sides felt they were fighting for a pure cause. What is particularly touching is that, as a people, we had not yet lost great of the capacity for simple, unadorned, unembarrassed feelings, whether it be patriotism for one’s country or worship for one’s wife. I challenge anyone to read this letter from Sullivan Ballou, a 32-year-old soldier in the Union Army, to his 24-year-old wife, and not sit apprehensive with emotion. Ballou was killed in the first battle of Bull Bustle a week later.

My very dear Sarah:
The indications are very strong that we shall recede in a few days-perhaps tomorrow. Lest I should not be able to write again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may descend under your gaze when I shall be no more . . .
I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in the cause in which I am engaged, and my courage does not close or falter. I know how strongly American Civilization now leans on the triumph of the Government and how gargantuan a debt we owe to those who went before us through the blood and sufferings of the Revolution. And I am willing-perfectly willing-to lay down all my joys in this life, to aid beget this Government, and to pay that debt . . .
Sarah my like for you is deathless, it seems to bind me with great cables that nothing but Omnipotence could break; and yet my admire of Country comes over me like a strong wind and bears me unresistibly on with all these chains to the battle field.
The memories of the delighted moments I have spent with you advance creeping over me, and I feel most satisfied to God and to you that I have enjoyed them for so long. And hard it is for me to give them up and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, God willing, we might unexcited have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grown up to suited manhood, around us. I have, I know, but few and diminutive claims upon Divine Providence, but something whispers to me-perhaps it is the wafted prayer of my microscopic Edgar, that I shall return to my loved ones unharmed. If I do not my dear Sarah, never forget how great I savor you, and when my last breath escapes me on the battle field, it will impart your name. Forgive my many faults and the many wretchedness I have caused you. How thoughtless and foolish I have often times been! How gladly would I wash out with my tears every microscopic residence upon your happiness . . .
But, O Sarah! If the plain can approach abet to this earth and flee unseen around those they loved, I shall always be advance you; in the gladdest days and in the darkest nights . . . always, always, and if there be a soft dash upon your cheek, it shall be my breath, as the frigid air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Sarah do not mourn me dead; reflect I am gone and wait for thee, for we shall meet again . . .
————–
The program flows over 11 hours on five discs. In addition to the documentary, the discs are stuffed with background information…maps, documents, biographies and additional interviews. This is a honorable production and is worth every penny.
Ken Burns has established himself as one of the greats in terms of historical documentaries. The Civil War is Mr. Burns’ greatest work. The attention to detail brings the history to life. Mr. Burns does an beneficial job of bringing humanity to the tragic time in America. With the consume of solder’s and family letters it is evident what a difficult time it was to be an American. Originally aired on PBS in September of 1990, nearly fifteen years later the series remains the ultimate sage about the United States darkest time.
The series is finally released on DVD. While the note is a puny high the extraordinary quality of the series makes the cost very reasonable. Ken Burns’ Civil War is required for any Civil War historian’s collection. The series is also a mountainous intention for those wishing to learn more about the Civil War. I would recommend this to anyone that loves historical documentaries. It does not gain any better than The Civil War - A Film by Ken Burns.

For those of you that have seen or!gasp! purchased the bootleg version of this TV special, here’s a chance to gain not only a remastered version of that special, but all the limited extras that advance along with this (2) disc version. First off, a description of what this is…this is a TV special. They shot this for Japanese television in 1978 and what was conventional then was that not all the songs are performed live. Some are lip sync. Note-this is not a live concert! They only fabricate for the television cameras and not a live audience. Some of the songs are clearly the recordings while others are performed with musicians tedious them (Thank You For The Music) as an example.
Buy,Download, Or Stream In Japan! Click Here
The extras include a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary on the second disc, and on the first a slow the scenes of ABBA in Japan doing promotion and preparing for this TV special. It is in Japanese but english subtitles are available.
Recount quality and sound are immense -the bonus track which is ‘If it Wasn’t For The Nights’ is already in the special. The bonus is a remix of that same track
**Also mark this is plump cloak not letterboxed. What more can I say? If you care for ABBA and haven’t seen this prefer this up! If you have, retract a sight again, this remastered version plays beautifuly and worth having in your collection.
Buy,Download, Or Stream In Japan! Click Here
**UPDATE 11/6 - This review is for the 2 disc version, it is my idea that there is also a 1 disc version that does not include the glide on the wall documentary which by the procedure is ‘ABBA in Japan 1980.’ That bonus documentary is a tedious the scenes idea of ABBA’s tour of Japan in 1980. Sound quality on that is beautiful and includes snippets of there live performance but no complete songs. The second disc also contains a gallery of photographs status to music and a gallery of relate sleeves for both LP’s and 45’s released in Japan.
Clearly, noteworthy care went into the production of this DVD release. The quality of the video from the current rotund frame (1:33 to 1) video tape masters from this 1978 TV special are very favorable. The re-mastered sound, both the monophonic audio from the recent live numbers, as well as the stereo remasters of the official studio versions of these hit songs that are re-inserted to match these performances, is the best yet. The DVD audio alone serves as a novel quality audio reference for these standards.
The lip-sync production numbers are exquisite, moreover, Agnetha in particular does justice to these lip syncs. She seemed to really care about how these performances came across and really connected with the camera and it shows. I saw only one short lip sync error in the whole presentation. Unusual introductions by the four, Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha and Anna-Frid are intact as intros to three numbers, as well as the tag-finale.
The live numbers, such as SOS, Thank you for the music and Money, Money, Money are an added treat. As a time capsule, the remastered Abba hits, and the rare leer at these two talented ladies, who buy the reveal, this release is a must for current viewers as well as existing Abba fans. More insights to the band and those times are well showcased in the Documentary and tear reveal special features. They call it a “Flit on the Wall” documentary.

over all don’t acquire this dvd. put your money and time.
This DVD is literally an atrocity. There are no right words to report how poorly made this “documentary” really is. I sold this DVD help without getting a plump refund, proof of how desperate I was to catch rid of it. This is an unauthorized DVD and and it was not completely right. The commentary was outrageous and they even showed Tupac’s autopsy photo. I do not recommend this DVD.
If you are looking for facts about Tupac, win Thug Angel, Tupac vs, or the best of them all, Tupac resurrection.

Compare Prices on Zombie
Originally perceived by critics as a Dawn of the Tedious rip off, Lucio Fulci’s Zombie is an over the top gorefest that has become a classic among fans over the years. Featuring some of the most realistic looking zombies ever to be seen on film (they’re rotting and decomposing and peruse brilliantly disgusting) and plenty of memorable scenes (including the faulty splinter in the behold scene and the beautifully shot underwater battle between a shark and a resiliant zombie), Zombie is a gorehounds’ dream. The narrative is simple, a few inhabitants of a cursed island all become chow for a horde of zombies, but it works for the film as it is simple, unsettling gorey scare Fulci style. There’s no social commentary or dismal humor like in Romero’s Slow trilogy or Wearisome Alive, objective pure dismay all the way; and while it may not be as profound as Fulci’s The Beyond, Zombie is mild a more than solid panic flick worth seeing if you have the stomach for it. Anchor Bay has assembled a solid DVD for the film (they always do stout jobs for cult dread films on DVD) with enough extras to satisfy most fans of the film.
“Zombi 2″ is the same film as Zombie. That powerful we’ve figured out. There’s also a “Zombi 3″ and a “Zombi 4.” What some reviewers have asked is where is the missing chapter? So here goes.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Zombie! Click Here
When George Romero’s “Dawn of the Insensible” was released in Italy, it was released under the name “Zombi.” “Zombi 2″ was written before Dawn, but was slightly changed to cash in on Romero’s success. Thus, rather than call it “Zombi” again, they stuck on a “2,” making it seem like a sequel.
When “Zombi 2″ was released in the U.S., the name was changed once again, this time to “Zombie.”

By the time this display reached its third season, the joke was getting a shrimp thinly spread. The plots became further away from the initial conception of two lab mice wanting to retract over the world and more a showcase for the two lead characters’ interaction. This however is not a criticism.
In TV the word ‘formula’ is dreaded. However, here the characters remain so endearing that the method of every dwelling being vitually the same did not matter.

Most episodes followed this arc: -
1. Brain has a bizarre notion as to how to purchase over the world
2. To carry out this opinion some equipment/money is needed
3. Brain comes up with an even more bizarre diagram to rep said equipment/money
Buy,Download, Or Stream Pinky and the Brain, Vol. 3! Click Here
4. The understanding fails due to Pinky’s stupidity
5. The initial concept to occupy over the world is abandoned
6. Inaugurate over tomorrow night
Although there are exceptions, that basically sums up this and the previous two seasons but as the saying goes - If ain’t broke don’t fix it - and this formula was one that bore a lot of comedy fruit.
This reveal certainly beats some of the dross that graces our screens these days and had the nerve to query that its audience had some intelligence.
Not laugh-a-minute but unruffled a classic.
Ps .
I quiet can’t hold that no-one has decided to revive these characters to star in a live-action movie (with CGI P&B of course) .
pinky and the brain has to be my current cartoon of all time. from bizzare plans to assume over the world to even more bizarre plans to originate those bizzare plans work, pinky and the brains shenanigans never regain feeble. i grew up watching pinky and the brain, and they never catch venerable. Uncommon and entertaining characters, ranging from brains nemesis snowball, to pinky’s horse/girlfriend, as well as the occasional anamaniac apperances, round out the substandard cast of the prove. The joy that they seem to prefer in slamming bill clinton and other renowned figure (although mostly clinton), is objective so infectious that you cant wait on but laugh. And even better are the deep themes that appear if you inspect closely enough, but dont affect the hilarity of the reveal if you dont discover them, makes the display fun to study for everyone. i even wrote a paper on one of the episodes for my compostion class. there will never be another cartoon of pinky and the brains caliber. this present is the perfect thing to devour with your children and friends. it may assume some convincing to score them to witness, but once they do they will be crooked.
A Pinky and the Brain fan For life!

Compare Prices on The James Bond Collection, Vol. 1
Before I even catch started I want to accomplish one thing perfectly clear; I am not writing this review based on the bond movies. In my humble view The James Bond series is graceful, some movies are better than others but overall this is action and adventure at its best. 007 is my well-liked elegant hero of all time and I hope the Bond legacy lives forever.
Now that being said; what [is going on]!. Are you kidding me? This is what we secure? Seven movies? That’s it? My plight is with the boxed space. There have been 21 Bond Movies to date, they took 7 of them at random and stuck them together in a cardboard box and they call this a collectors residence. Has anyone seen the collectors space they have in England? Its freaking stunning. It has all the movies in order from Dr. No to The World is Not Enough, plus a bonus DVD about the making of die another day and it’s all beautifully presented in a chrome metal collector’s box complete with artwork and many extras. If you have not seen it you can lift a peruse at it on Amazon’s UK situation but don’t catch it because it is state 2 and won’t work on American DVD players.
Why don’t we have a plot like that? …
This collection includes various Bond movies from four of the actors that have played James Bond in the “official” Bond movies, which excludes “Never Say Never Again.” My only complaint about the three collections is that the movies are not in order. I have all three sets because I like Bond rather than wanting all the Bond movies by one of the three actors. However, you have to steal them as you can obtain them sometimes.

Each of the movies in this collection is a “special edition,” which is a worship name for DVDs that include extras that range in value from high to crude. I have been very fascinated with some of the commentaries (those by Terence Young were very moving) and some of the features unbiased seemed like filler. However, what I found exciting other may not, and vice versa. Rather than listing all the extras, a list of which is available, I will discuss the movies briefly.
“Dr. No” launched the Bond franchise. Sean Connery state the tone for Bond, suave, debonair, and terminally frigid. He drove nice cars and had a penchant for dry one-liners. Ursula Andress situation the tone for future Bond women, and Dr. No was coolly ruthless. Ken Adam’s sets were artistic and artfully filmed by Terence Young, who also provided the stylistic role model for Connery’s Bond. In the extras you learn that Connery was mentored by Young and acquired expensive tastes and hobbies in the process.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The James Bond Collection, Vol. 1! Click Here
Many people believe the second movie in this collection, 1964’s “Goldfinger,” to be the best Bond film ever. Bond’s villains continued to be ruthless and megalomaniacs, and Connery has a terminate encounter with a laser. Shirley Bassey belts out the title song and sets the standard for future Bond music. James Bond also quips that drinking Dom Perignon above 38 degrees Fahrenheit is “…as abominable as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs.” Fortunately, Paul McCartney did not retract it personally as he recorded the title track to the 1973 Bond movie “Live and Let Die.” Bond also got ever more gadgets from Q, played by Desmond Llewelyn, who went on to appear in more Bond movies than any other major actor.
The third movie in the collection is Roger Moore’s second outing as Bond. “The Man with the Golden Gun” from 1974 is a mixed bag. Christopher Lee as Scaramanga and Herve Villechaize are two of the most bizarre and ruthless Bond villains ever. There are fewer gadgets than in some of the surrounding Bond movies, but Moore’s performance is a bit wooden and Clifton James was a bit over-the-top as laughable relief. The title song by singer Lulu is beautiful advantageous, but pales in comparison to many of the other title songs in the series.
The fourth movie in this collection attempted to set Bond support on track. The 1977 movie “The Recognize Who Loved Me” had a very serious undertone. The gadgets are encourage, but effective. We meet Jaws (Richard Kiel) and Karl Stromberg (Curt Jürgens) . We also meet fabulous Bond women Caroline Munro and Barbara Bach. The stunts are awesome, the dwelling is unbelievable, the locations incredible and the title song by Carly Simon pushed Bond music abet into relevancy. This movie was one of Roger Moore’s best as James Bond.
Timothy Dalton’s second film, 1989’s “License to Waste,” is the weaker of the two Dalton Bond films. However, the supporting cast is advantageous, including Carey Lowell of “Law and Order” fame, Robert Davi, Talisa Soto, and David Hedison as Felix Leiter in his last appearance in a Bond film. The spot shots are very advantageous, and the stunts are among the best of any Bond film. They actually had those semi-tractor trailers up on two wheels, according to the extras. The abominable guy may have been a mere drug czar, but everyone was suitably atrocious. Gladys Knight takes the honors for the title song and Patti LaBelle sings the pop hit “If You Asked Me To” to terminate the movie.
The last two movies in this collection are Pierce Brosnan’s first and second Bond movies. In 1995’s “Goldeneye,” Bond is more dynamic and a more former ogle. This movie raised the place stakes by filming for the first time in Russia, along with a number of other exotic locations. The gadgets are better, and the women are nearly more than Bond can handle, especially Xenia Onatopp. This movie contains more state twists than a typical Bond movie, so be prepared to judge a petite as things go vow. Tina Turner does the title song reasonably well, but her performance has great competition in many of the other fresh Bond films.
The final film in this collection is 1997’s “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The supporting cast this time is phenomenal, with the astronomical actor Jonathan Pryce as Elliot Carver, Teri Hatcher as his wife Paris Carver, and Michelle Yeoh as Chinese agent Wei Lin, among numerous others. Jonathan Pryce steals nearly every scene he is in, reminiscent of some other sizable Bond villains. The locations are ever more amazing, digital effects abound, and the stunts are even more thrilling. That motorcycle jump was really performed! Cheryl Crow does a grand job on the title song, and the kindly video is included.
Because of all the extras these DVDs require hours to witness. While the value of the extras varies, watching them gives a fan mighty more information about the difficulties of making each movie, and how many of the stunts were performed. I deem these movies to be among the gems of my DVD collection. I recommend this area very highly as long as you notion on collecting all the Bond films.

A luscious movie. Perfect for a frosty night when you need some wait on getting over your believe bah humbug feelings.
This is a really nice movie and anyone who likes a respectable romance will really bask in it. The jam with this dvd is that the digital copyright protection prevents it from being played properly on computers or dvd/vcr combo machines. It works aesthetic on machines that fill only a dvd player. I found this to be extremely frustrating and inconvenient. I distress up with 2 dvd’s and they both behaved in the same plot.
As a 12 year old-fashioned, Holly Grant meets Santa and as she thinks she is too extinct for dilapidated gifts, she tells Santa she wants a boyfriend for Christmas. He leaves a gift under her tree with a message: she will receive her requested gift in the 20th year “when two hearts are ready”. Time then goes to almost 20 years later when Holly is in her 30’s and is working for a non-profit organization. Enter Ryan Hughes, a lawyer, who courtesy of Santa winds up being Holly’s gift for Christmas. A mistake with a joint client causes Ryan to have a falling out with Holly even though they’ve never met. When Ryan arrives on Holly’s doorstep, he chooses to snarl Holly his name is Douglas Firwood to mask his legal identity. Over the holiday Holly and “Doug” drop in adore as they occupy up a charade with her family. Holly’s jealous ex-boyfriend tries to note Ryan as a fraud, and Ryan’s lie threatens to spoil his chance for a joyful future with Holly. There is one brief comment about sex and a few uses of God’s name, but otherwise I would say it is a grand family movie.
January 2009 - I honest wanted to say that it seems they’ve fixed the jam. I bought 2 copies of this movie in town here over the Christmas season and they are graceful. I’m jubilant, as it’s a profitable movie.

Whereas ‘pee wee’s colossal adventure’ explored more of pee wees quirkiness (remember the scene with the tape in the bathroom) ‘big top pee wee’ tried to prefer the character disappear him to a different setting and create a sort of romantic comedy.. This is probably where it all falls apart.. pee wee should not be a romantic figure - he is the opposite.. he is best when he remains a sort of neuter or man child.. the second romance enters the describe.. pee wee loses all of his charm and comedy.. there are a few amusing moments in expansive top pee wee but on the whole it falls flat.
Incredibly abominable follow-up to the classic Pee-wee’s Mammoth Adventure is unfunny and bizarre. Randal Kleiser, the director of such films of Grease and The Blue Lagoon, flubs up Pee-wee’s second and ultimately last feature. The movie starts off OK, with Pee-wee hamming it up as a Frank Sinatraesque crooner but then goes down hill from there. Movie somewhat redeems itself with the longest veil kiss in movie history but then finally hits rock bottom. The ending is contemptible, and leaves a feeling of insecurity and confusion. When I first got this movie, I was expecting a laughable movie, what I got was an overly bland mess of a movie. It detached is keen to explore but doesn’t leave a feeling of satisfaction. When Pee-wee’s room isn’t even a cramped bit unusual, you know there’s something faulty.

After five trendsetting seasons of defining the cultural 80’s vibe, Vice was beginning to lose its glamour and had overstayed its welcome by becoming as trendy and aged as yesterday’s pastel-colored fashions. The mood and feel of the reveal had shifted away from the pop-electric neon atmosphere of earlier seasons to a darker and edgier tone beginning with the two-part conclusion to the season four cliffhanger “Mirror Image” that ended with Sonny, believing that he is his undercover persona Burnett after suffering total amnesia in a boat explosion, races off in a speedboat after killing an undercover detective. Tubbs has tracked him down somewhere arrive Tampa where he has been living for months as a hit-man for a remarkable crime cartel. The premiere episode “Hostile Takeover” begins with Sonny rising through the ranks of the Carrera’s by doing the dirty deeds for the feuding family in an worry to choose out the rival El Gato organization. Posing as a Jamaican buyer, Tubbs rendezvous with Sonny in an difficulty to jar his memory but instead Sonny tries to demolish Tubbs when it triggers a memory flashback and he remembers that he is a cop. After the initial Burnett story-arc is concluded in “Redemption in Blood,” the remaining episodes seemed to turn somewhat anti-climactic. What could have been an spirited season-long theme that that could have potentially played up Sonny-turned-bad masquerading as his undercover alter-ego Burnett is slice short prematurely and it’s hard to gain that Sonny isn’t indicted for all of his snide crimes or at the very least is forced to turn in his badge. There’s a few moments with Crockett trying to reconcile his relationship with his son Billy in “To Have and To Bear” and coming to terms with his ex, Caroline, and an comical light-hearted episode with his con-artist cousin Jack played by David Andrews in “Jack of All Trades” and also Tubbs reuniting with Valerie reprised by Pam Grier in the originally unaired “Too Mighty, Too Slack” that assist to wrap up loose ends but overall you can sense that the kill of the line was coming and the cast and crew were unbiased riding things out. Don Johnson’s wardrobe had gone from stylish slacks and casual loafers to denim bluejeans and cowboy boots and his long shaggy blonde locks made him ogle like he’d impartial walked off the residence of Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. The absence of composer Jan Hammer is painfully felt and Tim Truman’s commendable scoring gives it a very different overall feel compared to previous seasons and redundant plotlines animated South American drug smugglers had finally exhausted themselves but the payoff at the slay of the final episode “Freefall” is emotional as the ensemble cast members say their goodbyes and go their seperate ways and almost as suddenly as Miami Vice had arrive to an slay, so too had the fashionable decade of the 1980’s.
John Lennon said that before Elvis there was nothing. Of course, apart from a lot of teengroups, this was quite moral. I would dare to say that after Vice there has been nothing on tv that could equal, let alone surpass it.

I do NOT agree with reviewers saying that Vice “overstayed it’s welcome by becoming a trendfollower after having been a trendsetter in earlier seasons.”
It is good that indeed, as a reviewer so eloquently set it, “the mood and feel of the note had shifted away from the pop-electric neon atmosphere of earlier seasons to a darker and edgier tone beginning with the two-part conclusion to the season four cliffhanger “Mirror Image” that ended with Sonny, believing that he is his undercover persona Burnett after suffering total amnesia in a boat explosion, races off in a speedboat after killing an undercover detective.”
Of course when Vice as a series progressed in tv time, so did the dependable decade that Vice was all about (or to exhaust a chiasm; were the 80s about Miami Vice objective as well? ) . The glamour of the earlier fragment former away as the 90’s with grunge music and a more negative feel were slowly emerging. It might have been a reaction to the glamour of the 80’s as is often the case; decades that follow eachother are often like waves. Times do change all the time and so did Vice. Not surprisingly in the 90s and therefore of course the latter section of the 80’s (albeit more invisible) the atmosphere would have to mediate somehow in the episodes of Vice as well, and it justly did.
Yes, even Sonny changed to stonewashed jeans and I reflect it was chilly, since it was fitting. I mediate by then his character and the rest of the world had seen almost every pastel Versace blazer ever made by then, so this more down to earth witness smooth gave a frigid retort to the demand `what could have been cooler than Sonny in silk blazers? ‘Well, how about Sonny in jeans? Believe of it this way: would it have been fitting, or would it have been almost ridiculous, to have shot season 4 and 5 in the same prankish atmosphere as the first three? Arrive on, Jan Hammer had expansive soundtracksongs, but the music unexcited continued it’s quality. Gloomier atmosphere, gloomier music indeed, but it quiet was mammoth music, even today, that fitted the shows themselves.

Maybe the reviewers, including myself, cannot win to terms with the fact that in time generations become less and less naive, or in other words, the world becomes more realistic. Something’s gained, something’s lost. The mark for living in more no nonsense times like now is the loss of idealism. The fun in earlier seasons, with Sonny and Crockett making jokes in ecstatic Florida was lost, but what was gained was a obliging timing in shifting the mood. Vice rightfully adapted to newer days without being trendfollowers and that clearly showed in the last seasons. What was gained as well was more excitement and action in the series, and I don’t spy how reviewers saw this as superficial or Vice becoming trendfollowers instead of trendsetters. Level-headed even then, there was no better copshow or thrill than Vice.
The moodshift to more serious stuff to me was also that it seemed to act as a realistic mirror of the hopelessness of fighting the drug force, which it aloof is to this day. I mean, after so many seasons of fighting the ‘vice’, what did it amount to? A modern episode with a unusual crime to fight. It had to kill, or, the ‘ennui’ had to be shown in the series, as every suited series develops, impartial like any account set. It might be right the cast was, as reviewers said, ‘riding things out’ and things were coming to an kill. Exactly, and fortunately this same development, or ennui, which reflected in the series themselves was fitting. Drugs is unexcited impossible to fight, and cops like Sonny and Crockett that did their best in more than 100 episodes were likely to have become burne”tt” out. Vice had to kill, the only inquire of how.
Atmittedly, especially in the last season it spiralled alsmost to the absurdly icy, with great white empty villa’s and drugbosses in clothes that would accomplish a video of Bryan Ferry spy like the clip of ‘cotton eyed joe’.
Sonny and Tubbs indeed became more abstract themselves in this outlandish atmosphere. Some call this ‘one dimensional’, but the first three seasons had shown enough introspection of the characters I believe. And how about Sonny loosing his wife? That was a character-driven station to me. Overall, the action, the acting and the music (although changed in style) level-headed gave the series that extra over any other tv series at the time. Ok, it had become decadent, but all fine things spiral out of control, especially the unforgettable stuff.
I simply opinion Vice, and especially the last season was the best stuff our generation had the privilige to sight in it’s day when it was unexcited original, with the Burnett episodes shot in eerie night blue, his revenge on the killer of his wife and of course the indeed very emotional destroy. When Sonny drove off in his white car after shaking so shortly the hand of his partner, not only the 80s were lost forever, but also the best exhibit that has ever aired and it would not have been as helpful as it was without this season. I would like to seize a quote from the booklet of the Stones 2CD 40 Licks by saying: thanks (Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, Michael Mann) for touching our lives. Although people might say it was only tv, on some very rare occasions, tv transcends itself and defines a determined period in time. Vice did! Even though watching it now will never pick up you support to times lost, level-headed…go for it!
