CD making popping noises in last few tracks.?
A while ago I ordered a CD from Barnes and Noble. It arrived January 11th, while it was still pretty cold outside. During the last four tracks on the CD (and digitally) there are random popping noises and silences. I checked the back of the CD and there are no scratches at all, it’s flawless. I was wondering if I just ripped it to my computer too soon and didn’t give it enough time to warm up or if it’s just defective. The other CD I ordered from Barnes and Noble that was packaged with this CD is fine though.

How can I start to speak fluent japanese?
I’m trying to speak japanese but the books don’t help because they only teach you basic conversations and you can’t get into detailed conversations. I have a japanese friend but she lives a few hours away from me. Any suggestions?

When learning any language, you should start with the basics. If you mean that you have already learned all the phrases on your program, I’d say get an intermediate or advanced Japanese learning program, depending on your level of expertise.
I grew up around the Spanish language and while the computer program I was using to become fluent taught me a lot, I soon learned the phrases and words it offered. Since I’m cheap and relatively studious, I used yahoo’s babelfish feature (www.yahoo.com/babelfish) to find vocabulary words. I already knew how to piece them into a sentance. You can do this, if you read Japanese, but if you don’t, you’ll need a learning program, as the following is how it appears: ?????????????. Rosetta Stone is a good program, I’ve heard, but I’ve never used it and a friend of mine used it as a beginner and said nothing was in English. Another friend of mine, however, used it intermediately and it seems to be working quite well for her. I used a TalkNow program for learning Japanese, actually, and it was good, you’ll just have to get a more advanced level.
Also, talk to your friend who speaks the language on the phone as much as possible without using her. It always helps to speak the language, esspecially when trying to learn advanced conversation material. The person who answered before me said not to bug her, but if it were me, I’d be flattered, as long as we acutally talked instead of just kind of did lessons. Good luck!

It depends what your goal is: do you want "Guitar Hero" fluency, or do you want to learn how to play real music?

If you really want to speak real fluent Japanese quickly, I think you will have to go and live in Japan for at least six months, stay away from English speaking people, and study. If you’re still student aged, an exchange to Japan is a wonderful thing to do.

If you just want to get better at Japanese than you already are now, without going to Japan, I would seek out any Japanese student living near you and offer to do some language exchange. Also, take a week to teach yourself hiragana and katakana intensively. It will give you the best foundation to understanding Japanese words, and correct pronunciation.
