How to address a problem with a teacher who has caused a student to attempt suicide?
My son told me today that a new friend of his at school confided in him that their gym teacher, who is well-known for his horrible mean-spirited attitude towards students, was the reason this teen tried to commit suicide last year. The teen wanted to try out for the baseball team, and Mr. B. told him to not even bother. It was said in front of a group of others who were trying out, and this student was already depressed. This was the last straw. Thank God he wasn’t successful in the suicide attempt. This school is supposed to be a Christian school, but this teacher is allowed to talk to the students in such an abusive way, he even uses the "F" word sometimes if someone accidently messes up during a game in gym class. I really want to see this guy removed, but don’t know how to go about it.
Gosh, of course not just an isolated incident will usually cause a person to want to commit suicide. But what people fail to understand is that teachers often have much power on a student’s self-esteem, and as I said, he was already depressed and this was the last straw.

Print out what you wrote here and take it to the principal, the school board, the newpapers, until you are satisfied that this matter is resolved.

The man needs to be held accountable for his conduct.

I’m not really sure what to say, but you need to contact SOMEONE to get him the "F" word out of there.

I’d talk to the principal. I don’t know if a Christian school has a school board, but that would be an option too.

If you could get the parents of the other kid to step up with you, and also, any other parents who have the same issues, you could go, en mass to the superintendent of schools and make a formal complaint.
The sad fact is YOU don’t have much power unless your child was directly involved in the incident you mentioned. Talk to other parents. A group of you will carry more weight than a single parent.

Have you spoken with the principal/headmaster/administration/etc. about the teacher? Have you had a meeting with this teacher to discuss your issue with him?

Second - a person cannot be the sole reason someone attempts suicide. If the person is already depressed, has a chemical imbalance in their brain, and is not receiving help, situations *can* influence the actions of the person, but it is not the sole cause of the person’s suicide attempt.

Your next step is to talk to the principal or the administration of the school - explain the situation. Make sure to ask the administration to keep you notified of how they are handling the problem.

You are getting only one side. People who are disturbed and also bipolar people never take responsibility fir their actions and always blame others.

Having said that, if this teacher is emotionally or verbally abusive and curses the kids- more than an occasional damn, then talk to the superintendent and tell him/her your concerns based on what you know. You can tell about the comments made by this kid but say that you don’t know if that was accurate or not.

Be very careful accusing the teacher of causing this student to attempt suicide. Because it could back fire on you and you could be taking up of slander, sued etc
There could be other reasons why your son friend suffered from depression. Just because this teacher didn
